Portuguese League

The Portuguese League, officially known as Primeira Liga, is the top professional football division in Portugal. It is organized by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and is considered one of the strongest leagues in Europe. Established in 1934, the league operates on a promotion and relegation system with the second-tier division, LigaPro.

The league consists of 18 teams, each competing against one another in a round-robin format, where each team plays every other team twice, once at home and once away. Points are awarded based on match results, with teams earning three points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a loss.

The club with the most points at the end of the season is crowned the Portuguese champion. The top teams also qualify for European competitions, such as the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. The league has produced notable clubs, such as Benfica, Porto, and Sporting CP, and has been instrumental in developing and showcasing Portuguese football talent.
