Soccer

Soccer, also known as football in many countries outside of North America, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net using any part of the body except for the arms and hands, which are typically reserved for the goalkeeper. The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a goal at each end.

Soccer is governed by the Laws of the Game, which are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). It is one of the most popular sports worldwide, with millions of players and fans. The sport is played professionally and at amateur levels, and it includes various leagues and tournaments, the most prestigious being the FIFA World Cup, which takes place every four years. The game emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and physical fitness, making it not only an athletic endeavor but also a cultural phenomenon in many societies.
