Rugby

Rugby is a team sport that originated in England in the early 19th century. It is played with an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field, with goalposts at each end. The objective of the game is to score points by carrying the ball over the opponent’s goal line and grounding it, a process known as a try, or by kicking the ball through the opponent’s goalposts, earning a conversion or penalty goal.

Rugby involves two teams, typically consisting of 15 players each in the union format or 13 players in the league format, who work together to advance the ball while adhering to specific rules regarding passing, tackling, and running. The sport is characterized by its physicality, teamwork, and strategy, and it places a strong emphasis on sportsmanship and respect for opponents and referees.

Rugby has various formats, including rugby union, rugby league, and sevens, each with distinct rules and styles of play. It is governed internationally by World Rugby and has a passionate following around the world, with major tournaments such as the Rugby World Cup drawing significant attention.
